As well as our various projects, under Environmental Friendship-Abroad Programme, we also host any people especially university student from abroad who are interested in visiting our country for educational purposes. We are happy to help them gain insight to environmental aspect of Tanzania as well as our efforts to conserve it. According to client’s interests, GAS will arrange accommodation and meals, transportation (except for flight from your country), instructors, and trips ranging from eco and cultural-tours including Maasai Cultural Bomas, local homestays, mountain climbing, walking safari, visits to protected areas such as Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Serengeti, Arusha, Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Parks etc.
Green Arusha society, as an environmental stakeholder in the country, has been creating awareness at the third angle among the local people in the same 15 villages in the districts of Arusha, Arumeru and Monduli, each district with 5 villages as pilot areas. The project included sensitization to the village leaders, mobilization of village environmental committees and capacity building workshops and trainings to the committee members as well as inter-village exchange visits and excursions by the committee members, follow-ups for monitoring, assessment and evaluation.
As well as youths, GAS has its focus on women, considering that women in rural communities are the most vulnerable group to various catastrophes including famine, war, shortage of water as well as fuel wood and ultimately need to travel a long distance searching for water and fuel wood for domestic requirements. As school environmental project, the program covers the same villages (target areas) believing that the message passed by the student would have created kind of awareness to the parents.
This project has been operated since 2002 in 15 primary schools in Arusha, Arumeru, and Monduli districts of Arusha region in Northern Tanzania, whereas each district has 5 primary schools as pilot projects in the areas respectively. SEDP aims at raising awareness in the communities through school children on environmental conservation believing in capability of children to grasp and practice the knowledge and skills easily as well as spread the same through the communities.
