This project has been operated since 2002 in 15 primary schools in Arusha, Arumeru, and Monduli districts of Arusha region in Northern Tanzania, whereas each district has 5 primary schools as pilot projects in the areas respectively. SEDP aims at raising awareness in the communities through school children on environmental conservation believing in capability of children to grasp and practice the knowledge and skills easily as well as spread the same through the communities.
The project involves various activities such as mobilization of an Environmental Club (Green Mazingira Club) in each school, inter-school exchange programme, inter-club competition, study visits, excursions, tree nursery operations, tree planting and caring, trainings/seminars to teachers in-charge of the clubs and environmental studies through video shows and in-class presentation to the students.
